Furniture Bank is low on furniture. Your used furniture will change a life. Please donate! http://bit.ly/1IkHfNa

Furniture is silent in its power. We understand the role of food, clothing and shelter in our lives but we often take furniture for granted, until we don’t have access to it. For Furniture Bank clients transitioning out of homelessness or displacement, furniture has a profound impact on their ability to live dignified and productive lives. Currently, there are an additional 150 social service agencies in the GTA that are actively requesting access to their services. That translates to over 30,000 people in the GTA alone that are living without (or with inadequate) furniture each year.

Your support can play a transformational role in ensuring all Canadians live with the dignity and stability of a furnished home. Call to arrange a pickup.

In 2015, Furniture Bank continued their vision of furnishing hope across the Greater Toronto Area.

They have grown with the support of more than 6,300 furniture donors, over 61,000 items of furniture, and the help of 86 Partner Agencies. Over 1,400 volunteers gave more than 10,000 hours of time to help serve over 7,500 individuals who have required our service.

As a result of your support, we’ve had a record-breaking year and established more homes than ever before.

2015 saw the launch of their furniture workshop pilot program.

Working with volunteer and paid instructors, the program provides a hands-on opportunity for youth with barriers to employment to receive training in furniture repair, at the same time as allowing us to repair slightly damaged furniture. The workshop played host to students from Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training, providing an opportunity for students of their Carpentry Pre-Apprenticeship program to put what they learned in the classroom into action.

This year alone the furniture workshop was able to salvage over 800 items of slightly damaged furniture for their clients.

Supporting Syrian Refugees

With the Greater Toronto Area preparing to welcome 2,500 Syrian refugees over the next few months, Furniture Bank has partnered with Lifeline Syria to help the newcomer families address their immediate furniture needs.

Furniture Bank currently serves refugees every day though our existing partnerships with 18 refugee and newcomer focused agencies and we have already seen a 60% increase in refugees served this year. They will go above and beyond our normal processes to prioritize and address the needs of the incoming Syrian families.
